Holiday home for max. 8 persons
Radicofani, Tuscany, (Val d’Orcia), Italy
Tuscan stone house with a fireplace, pool and big garden, on an olive grove in Siena province
The elegant country house in natural stone lies secluded on a big olive grove, about five kilometres from Radicofani, in the very south of Tuscany. The road going past the house is rarely used.
The holiday house offers a unique atmosphere, a tasteful interior and three bedrooms on two floors. The ground floor has a generous living room with a sofa bed for two people (160 x 190cm), a spacious bedroom with a double bed, a small but fully-equipped kitchen, and a bathroom with a shower. This bathroom also has a glass door leading directly outside into the garden. Wooden stairs lead to the upper floor, which is also accessible up outdoor stairs. The living room upstairs has an original, preserved fireplace as a centrepiece, providing warmth and cosiness on cold days. The spacious and completely brick-built kitchen provides everything you need for cooking, as well as a collection of antique pots, which have been collected with attention to detail from various farms and antique shops. There are also two comfortable and light bedrooms, each with double beds, and a bathroom with a bath, with windows looking out towards the mountain Monte Cetona. There is another little bathroom with a shower on the loggia, which can be used for showering after swimming, as it can be accessed directly up outdoor stairs. In total eight people can be accommodated. The double beds each measure 160 x 190cm. A cot can be set up in the ground-floor bedroom on request. The accommodation has free Internet access.
A lovely pool in the giant garden invites you to swim and relax, with a panoramic view. It is used only by guests at this house and is cleaned every morning. The pool measures 6 x 12m, with a depth of 1.5 to 2.0 metres. You can also spend cosy grill evenings outdoors, where there is a wood-burning stove. You can dine outdoors at any time on the big veranda with a stone table, covered by an arcade. The country estate has a five-hectare olive grove, of which one hectare around the house is fenced, so your four-legged friends can run around freely. There are four roofed parking spaces on site. The family-run property has been renovated with traditional materials and therefore exudes a particular charm. It provides the ideal setting for a relaxing holiday in the fresh air and with good food.
There are shops, bars and restaurants in Radicofani about five kilometres away. The Val d’Orcia nature and culture park that the house is in is a world cultural heritage site. From here you can visit many interesting owns and charming villages, such as Celle sul Rigo, Radicofani with its fortification, the 46 thermal springs of San Casciano dei Bagni, which has been famous since Roman times and now has the new Fonteverde spa, Pienza, the birthplace of Pope Pius II, Motepulciano, the Etruscan town of Sarteano and many other charming localities rich in history, art and significant excavations, such as the Monte Cetona archaeology park. It is just a 25-minute drive to Monte Amiata, an extinguished volcano, which is now overgrown by one of the biggest beech forests in Europe and is a popular ski resort in winter. The peak affords a breathtaking view of the valley and on clear days you can also see the sea. The Via Francigena is recommended for hiking enthusiasts, with thousands of pilgrims every year following it to Rome. There are many cultural events, festivals and markets throughout the year.
